Gardiner Manor Students Learn Diplomacy

Gardiner Manor students participated in a Model UN project.

Students in Mrs. Rampersad’s, Mrs. Cohen’s, and Mrs. Meneses’ 5th grade classes and the students in Mr. Spikoski’s 4th grade class at Gardiner Manor School participated in a Model UN project. Students studied the issue of climate change in different countries around the world. They had the opportunity to learn about this issue from members of the ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø High School Model United Nations Club. The high school mentors taught their 4th and 5th grade partners how to research the ways that their assigned countries are trying to solve the problem both in their own countries and in the world as a whole. They helped them to understand some of the obstacles their countries may be facing in their attempt to solve the issue of climate change. The final activity in this project was a mini Model UN conference about climate change. Conferences help students to work on their ability to cooperate with others, engage in problem solving and develop their critical thinking and debate skills.
