Dear ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø-Brightwaters Community,
As shared earlier today, there was an incident at Gardiner Manor School in which the RAVE Mobile Safety Emergency Response System was activated in response to a perceived emergency situation. The Suffolk County Police Department immediately responded to Gardiner Manor, where it was confirmed that a transformer in the area had blown, causing a loud noise and loss of power in part of the building. At no time was there any danger to students or staff.
Once the Suffolk County Police determined it was a transformer, out of an abundance of caution they advised the building administrators to evacuate the students and staff. After emergency personnel determined that the building was safe for reentry, the school day resumed as usual.
We extend our gratitude to the Suffolk County Police Department for their prompt response. It is reassuring to know that if an emergency should arise at one of our schools, our local law enforcement is prepared to respond and keep our students and staff safe. We commend the staff members at Gardiner Manor for their prompt, calm response to the situation and for ensuring the safety of the students in their care.
In an emergency situation, the District will use the ParentSquare notification system as the main mode of communication to keep families informed. This system is used to send phone calls and emails to parents and guardians. It is important to remember, not all of the details of an emergency situation can be shared, particularly in the initial notification. The District will always share the most essential information with parents and guardians as soon as possible.
As always, thank you for your support of our students and ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø.
Superintendent of Schools
