Dear ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø-Brightwaters Community,

As you may be aware, a Child Victims Act case against the ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø School District was scheduled for jury selection on December 2, 2024. A settlement agreement in this case and settlement agreements in eleven additional uninsured cases have been reached in principle; however, the terms of said settlement agreements have not yet been finalized by the parties. The Board of Education will formally approve the twelve settlement agreements upon receipt of the signed agreements at a future Public Session.

The Board of Education and District remain committed to proceeding with compassion and fairness for all those who have been affected by claims filed pursuant to the Child Victims Act. This commitment is also guided by the Board’s fiscal responsibility to the entire ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø-Brightwaters community and its mission to ensure the District continues to thrive. We understand these cases have had an impact on our community and remain dedicated to continuing to address them with the utmost care and respect.

We will continue to share information with the community regarding these matters to the extent legally permissible. As always, thank you for your support of our students and ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø.
