Mary G. Clarkson Students Donate to Animal Shelter
3/1/2023

Mary G. Clarkson students created toys for shelter animals.

Ms. McCabe's kindergarten class at Mary G. Clarkson School recently worked on a community service project inspired by the book Madeline Finn and the Shelter Dog by Lisa Papp. The students were intrigued and wanted to know more about how they can help animals in shelters, like Madeline from the book. The students collected some old t-shirts, cut them into strips, learned how to braid, and tie them to make dog toys. By the end of their month long project, they made over 60 braids, turning them into 37 toys for dogs big and small. The children donated the toys and old blankets to the Southampton Animal Shelter. The Southampton Animal Shelter visited the school with Rigby, a 1 year old dog who is being trained to be a companion for a veteran. The children learned all about the shelter, how they help animals, and how their donations would make a difference.
