2013-14 Girls Winter Track Review
Head Coach: Steve Borbet
This should be a good season for the ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø Girls 2013-14 Winter Track Team. The coaches feel we should contend for both the Suffolk County and League 2 Championships. We have won twelve of the last thirteen Suffolk County Large School Championships, and twenty-three straight League Championships. Sachem North, Sachem East, Northport and Connetquot are all contenders for the County Championship. Northport and Connetquot will be tough in League 2. We are strong in the long, triple and high jump. Anisa Toppin (12), Imani McGhee (12), Patrice Baston (11) give us three of the best long and triple jumpers on Long Island. Aviana Goode (10) and Erica Silhan (12) have both cleared 5’5†in the high jump, and should also be among the best on Long Island. Goode, Silhan and Baston are all good hurdlers, and give us another high scoring event. Toppin, McGhee, Baston, Silhan, and Goode will give us a solid sprint squad. Newcomers Rachel Mihlstin (9) and Sarah Trupp (10) have looked good in the preseason, and should be a fine addition to our sprint group. Middle distance runners Cesia Andrade (12), Jacqueline Anderson (12), and Nia McCaslin (11), are all potential scorers in the 600-1000 meter runs, and will be running on our 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 meter relays. Jasmin Reyes (10), Caelyn Reilly (10), Samantha Flood (12) and Claire Moran (12) are our top distance runners. In the shot put, Omonikhefe Aghomon (12), Sodasia Thompson (12), Kayla Christie (10) and Ayanna Frank (11) are our top throwers. Race walking has been a typical strong event at ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø. Sara Farnan (10) had a terrific spring track season, and will be among the top walkers in the County. Lizzy Barnett (10) could join Sara as an elite walker. Other girls that could be major factors as the season progresses include: Lydia Taylor (12), Katie Kirk (12), Emma Sims (10), Ally Peck (10), Jordyn Piccirelli (10), Madeline Smith (9), Hannah La Force (9), Lauren Hendricks (7), Emma Mangels (9) and Morgan Flotteron (9). Our season opener is Crossover “A†on Sunday – December 8th at Suffolk CC-Brentwood starting at 11:45am. Then we will split our team on Saturday - December 14th. We will take thirty girls to the Jim Mitchell Meet at the 168th Street Armory starting at 5:30pm. The remainder of the team will compete in the Crossover “B†Meet at Suffolk CC-Brentwood starting at 5:15pm.
