The objective of these introductory courses is to provide students with the necessary techniques and methodologies to properly conduct, develop and present a research project.  Students will select a research topic in any area of science, engineering, mathematics, the social sciences or language arts.  Research students will perform selected laboratory experiments, implement the scientific method, write detailed scientific reports, employ statistical treatment of data, and also give presentations.  Additionally, students are expected to participate in local, state and national competitions.


Independent Research Development

(300 level)

1 credit

Students will continue with the research topics chosen during their first year in the introductory program.  Each student will establish a research plan that includes identifying resources, selecting a mentor and choosing a research facility where the research will be conducted under the supervision of their mentor.  Students will be required to participate in one nationally renowned research competition chosen from either the Intel STS or the Siemens-Westinghouse and Technology Competition.  Students will present their findings at ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø’s Symposium held in June.
