Grading Information

The ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø School District strives to provide a challenging learning environment for our students.  The district wants each student to develop his or her critical thinking skills, and leave our schools college and career ready.

Beginning in September 2017, the ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø School District implemented a standards-based grading system at the kindergarten through fifth grade level.  This system will help to more clearly communicate student progress.  It will also involve a shift from quarter grading to trimester grading.

A standards-based grading system will allow parents and teachers to review more accurate information about a student’s progress towards meeting the New York State Learning Standards.  Tracking the skills and standards listed on the report cards will allow teachers to better assess whether a student is meeting grade-level standards.

As the district reviewed the implementation of the standards-based report cards, it became clear that a shift from quarters to trimesters would benefit ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø’s students.  This change is being implemented at the K-5 level only.  ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø Middle School and ³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏÍø High School will continue to operate under the quarterly grade reporting system.

Under trimester reporting, K-5 report cards will be issued three times per year (the schedule for the 2017-2018 school year can be found below).  Rather than 4 quarters each lasting 45 days, there will now be 3 semesters lasting 60 days each.  Progress reports will be issued after 30 instructional days only for those students performing below standards and partial proficiency.

We encourage parents to continue using the parent portal to receive information about attendance, performance and work completion.
