Orienteering
OBJECTIVES:
Psychomotor:
The students will be able to:
- Navigate orienteering courses using map and compass skills
Cognitive:
The students will be able to:
- Learn directionality
- Use a compass correctly
- Read a map (orient the map, thumb and track)
- Find attack points on a map (reference points)
- Navigate a Point to Point orienteering course, a Score Orienteering course
- Read topography and understand how to use it as a reference point on a map
- Answer quiz questions from other subject areas in order to complete an interdisciplinary point to point course.
Affective:
The students will be able to:
- Demonstrate fair play and appropriate competitive behavior (e.g., cooperating with other teammates, demonstrating leadership, allowing all teammates to contribute, and preventing/resolving conflicts, complimenting/encouraging others).
- Respect the different physical abilities of group members and incorporate that into strategy for completing the courses in the fastest time possible.
